We help with

Heat pump and electrical problems that cannot wait.

No heat or weak heat

Blowing cold air, rooms will not warm up, or the system will not start at all.

Error lights or a dead unit

Flashing lights on the indoor unit, or nothing happens when you turn it on.

Outdoor unit iced over

Heavy ice that stays after the defrost cycle, or a unit buried in snow.

Lost power to part of the house

Some rooms or outlets are dead while the rest of the house has power.

Breaker keeps tripping

A breaker that trips again as soon as you reset it is telling you something.

Water leaking indoors

Water dripping from the indoor head or pooling under it.

While you wait

Five quick checks that often fix it.

  1. Check the thermostat or remote

Heat mode on, set above room temperature, fresh batteries in the remote.

  2. Look at the breaker panel

If the heat pump breaker tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call us.

  3. Clear around the outdoor unit

Brush snow away so air can flow. Do not chip ice off the coil, as that can damage it.

  4. Turn on backup heat

If you have baseboards, oil or wood, use them and close doors to rooms you are not using.

  5. Whole street dark?

It is likely a utility outage. Check Nova Scotia Power's outage map before calling an electrician.

If you smell burning or see sparks, switch off the breaker for that circuit if it is safe to do so. If there is fire, smoke or immediate danger, leave and call 911 first.

Can I reach Denate after hours?

Yes. Call or text (902) 789-9851. Urgent calls like no heat in winter get priority and go straight to our team. On-site work is booked by appointment.

Why is there ice on my outdoor heat pump unit?

A light frost that clears during the defrost cycle is normal in winter. Heavy ice that does not clear, or a unit encased in ice, usually means a defrost, airflow, drainage or refrigerant problem. Turn to backup heat if you have it and call us. Do not chip ice off the coil.

Do you repair heat pumps you did not install?

Usually, yes. Text us a photo of the model sticker on your indoor or outdoor unit and a short description of the problem, and we will tell you quickly whether we can help.
